"This little light of mine..."

"He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light." (John 1:8)

In the time when John began to prepare the way for Jesus, many thought him to be the promised Savior.  He was the last in a long line of great prophets to proclaim the coming of the Lord!  He was called upon by God and answered that call.  His life was, contrary to what you may believe, a chosen life.  He could have declined the invitation God gave him and chosen to sit on the sidelines while someone else did the work.  He was a true man of God!

We are all called to bear witness in our own, unique way.  God has given each of us a choice as to how we will serve him, using the talents and gifts he's given us.  We each have that same choice - we can decline.  Some choose to ignore his calling, others do not even realize they have been called.

We are not the "light", yet we can walk in it.  We, like John, can bear witness to that light!  We can share that light with others in some of the most profound ways imaginable! We have not (at least not that I'm aware of) be asked to leave everything we love and spend our time in the wilderness preparing others for his return.  We have, however, been tasked with spreading the Gospel and interpreting for others, the events that are coming.  We know that coming is soon.  As we continue to prepare ourselves, by sharing that Word and getting our affairs in order, we should pause and reflect on the events that have led to the return of Jesus.  They all began with God's love for us!  They will end in the same manner!  The the light of hope reflect off of your soul and let the love of God fill you with content and joy!  Let it shine!
