"Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." (Ps 37:4)
David calls for us to take "delight" in the Lord. We should commit everything we have and everything we do to him. How? Well, to delight in someone means to experience great pleasure and joy in their presence. Only when we know a person well enough does this happen. We are not often "delighted" by a passing stranger. We need to know God first!
We must trust God to guide our lives, our families, our jobs, our possessions - everything! In doing this, we show we "trust" him. We open ourselves to accept the fact that God can better care for us than we could ever do by ourselves! Without his constant love and guidance, protection and mercy, we would fail before we ever got started.
We, in turn, wait patiently for our Heavenly Father to smooth the road when it's bumpy, to lead us in the direction that he has prepared for us, and to prepare a place for us in his Kingdom. The desires of our hearts (in the long run) are to be with him in Heaven...therefore, when we delight in the Lord, when we are overflowing with joy at his blessings, he has, in fact, already given us the desires of our hearts...he sent Jesus to make it all possible!
