~ "Chain gang..."

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. (Ecc 9:10)

In the movie "The Blue Lagoon", Christopher Atkins' character wishes for a book to fall from the sky with all the answers in it.  Fortunately for us, we do have a book with all the answers in it...the Bible.  With the search engines available to us today, we can quickly search out a topic and find the verse we are looking for (and a few more, no doubt).

It is often difficult for a Christian (who knows that love is a command given by God) to hold a position that requires him to ensure that the workers he supervises are doing their jobs to the best of their ability.  The "secret answer" lies within this verse as well as in Mark 12:17 when Jesus tells us to "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's".  Being obedient requires us to follow the Word of God (and no, we won't get it right every time).  There is always someone in a position of authority over us.  We all have a "boss" of some sort - someone we must answer to.

Although not always a rewarding position, we are nonetheless instructed to perform our duties (our "jobs") to the very best of our ability.  We may receive a pay check signed by the individual who owns the company, and we are required to perform said duties in accordance with that person's wishes, but we also answer to a higher authority...one who's commands are greater.  In all things that we do, we are to glorify God - it is HIS approval we seek, no one else's.

Make each step count.  Make every chore an offering to the Lord.  Do your eight or ten hour work day for HIS glory - you'll see a change not only in yourself, but in those around you.  Remember, there is "no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave..."
