"Fishing" - a term mainly associated with casting a line into a lake, pond, sea or ocean with the hopes of a fish biting the hook placed at the end, getting stuck and being pulled into the boat, never to be free to swim again (unless, of course, you are doing it in a "catch and release" place).
Fishing can also be associated with the aspect of looking for something. And, no, I won't tell you what the urban dictionary says...
We are the fishermen - all of us! If we share the word of God, we are preaching (not in the sense that we've come to define that word) simply because we are passing along information that we are familiar with. We advocate, on Jesus' behalf, what we know to be true. We share the many blessings we have come to experience all because of a faith firmly planted in Christ. We seek out those who do not know God the way we do. We "fish".
Let His love and His truth be your tool (you know, your "fishing pole"). Let His word be your bait. Cast out your line and reel them in for Him one by one. Sure, you could use a "net" (it worked for Him - but He is God). In today's world, we really don't want to risk losing one single "fish". We can't afford to allow one soul to get away. We have seen the changes in the times - the "net" angle doesn't work as well as it once did. Time to get back to the basics - one on one. Share Jesus with one person today and they may just jump into the boat with you! If not, you've had their undivided attention for a brief moment and maybe someday, they'll remember and seek you out (or another fisherman whose boat they can jump into). Make the effort to be that fisher...
